Weekend at Home

Val being Val, she went straight to Dr. Goldsmith's office instead of waiting in the ER at Scripps La Jolla (if she had, she would probably still be there...). The Dr. wanted to get an MRI done and decided that she could spend the weekend at home and have the procedure done on Tuesday. This would allow Dr. Goldsmith to assemble the best team and not place the stents in on an emergency basis. I was not totally correct about the "sludge" comment. Basically, Val has a tumor in between two bilary ducts and the tumor is putting enough pressure on the ducts to close them off. Val will have a stent placed in both of her blocked bilary ducts, Thankfully, the procedure is done with out an incision and she may be able to go home on the same day.

Val is still jaundiced and feels sickly because of the bile backing up in her body. A big prayer is that she does not get a fever this weekend in which case she will have to go to the ER. Of course she is a bit anxious about this possibility so pray for her peace and comfort as well.

Next week was going to be quite busy at the McCrea house with all of the special end-of-the-year activities at school, and adding this procedure on Tuesday will make it even more of a challenging week. Please pray that next week goes smoothly for everyone in their household.

Thank you for continued prayer and support for Val and her family.

Julie

Val and family...

Thank you soooo much for keeping us up to date! We are all on our knees praying and this helps so much!!!

The prayers will continue...they will not end. Val...place your fears in His hands...with every breath you take in...breathe peace. And every breath you exhale...breathe out the fear...God will take care of it!!!

We love you!

Hello tho the McCrea Family,

You do not know me, but I was given your names from a friend of a friend (I believe your friends name is Stephanie) and have been following your progress. I have joined your precious team of prayer warriors and am also strengthened by your faith.

My husband was diagnosed with Stage IV Colon Cancer that had spread heavily to the liver and biliary tract in February of 2005. I understand exactly what you and your family are going through. We too have a young family. Our children are now 10, 9, 8 and 6. A year and a half older than they were when we began this journey that the Lord chose for us.

At the time of diagnosis, Byron's liver was failing and they didn't think he would make it 3 months. Only by the grace of God's hand is he still here. Our fight is nowhere near over. After 16 months of chemotheraphy, two stent placements and a colon resection, we are still fighting to get the liver to a point where they can resect it.

We have been to many of the same hospitals you have been. We have had Dr. El-Khoueiry at USC (he works with Dr. Lenz) follow our progress from the begining. He will let us know as soon as he feels they can offer something we can't get locally. We are being seen at Scripps Green in La Jolla for our infusions rather that making the drive to LA every week (or every other). It sounds like you are on the same regime that Byron was on for about 8 months (5FU Lecavorin, Oxaliplatin and Avastin). We live in Poway and are Christians as well. If you ever need anything or would just like to talk, we are here.

I cannot even imagine fighting this fight without our hope and faith in Jesus. It has been a very blessed year for us, we have been able to share our faith and be a testimony to more than we could have ever imagined. When I remember to stay focused on Jesus, all of my fears fade away and I am at peace.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace, Romans 15:13.

Feel free to contact us. I feel as though we are in this club that no one wants to join. But once you are in, only those actually fighting the fight can truely understand the physical, emotional and mental duress that you go through.

May God Bless you and your family and give you peace.
